EA SPORTS FC 26 formations and tactics: build from your players

A method for choosing shape and instructions based on the squad you own.

Last verified: Updated: SEMI_DYNAMIC

Stable starting point

  1. Choose where you want overloads and safe outlets.
  2. Set defensive balance before attacking instructions.
  3. Test in a low-stakes match and note recurring gaps.

Start with squad roles

Choose a formation by the players and spaces you can protect, not by its popularity alone. Identify your outlet when pressed, the midfielder who covers transitions, and the player who attacks the box. If a shape leaves a repeated gap, change one instruction or role and test again before switching the entire system.

Build a defensive floor

Set the defensive balance and rest-defence shape first. Then add attacking instructions that preserve a safe outlet when the ball is lost. Test in a low-stakes match and note whether the issue is build-up, midfield distance, full-back exposure or finishing; “the formation is bad” is too broad to fix.

Do not freeze a live meta

FC 26 tactics can change with patches, gameplay tuning and the squad available in Ultimate Team. Date any exact setting and explain the trade-off instead of calling it the only correct formation. A tactic that works for a fast winger and mobile full-back may fail with a slow back line, even when the menu values match.
