CS2 FPS settings: stabilize frame time before chasing max FPS

A practical baseline for display, launch and background settings without promising identical results.

Last verified: Updated: SEMI_DYNAMIC

Stable starting point

  1. Measure a repeatable map or practice scenario.
  2. Close overlays and background capture while testing.
  3. Keep settings that improve consistency, not only the counter.

Aim for consistent frametime

In Counter-Strike 2, compare settings in the same map and situation. Start with a display mode and resolution your PC holds, then reduce expensive effects or detail before making enemies and utility hard to read. A high average FPS does not remove a short hitch during a duel; watch consistency and input feel.

Test the full pipeline

Update the game and graphics driver, close recording overlays, verify files through Steam and check temperatures. Test an empty server or practice range, then a real match with smoke and utility. If the problem began after a Counter-Strike update, read the official update notes before applying launch options copied from an old guide.

PC-specific warning

Do not promise one FPS value without the CPU, GPU, resolution and map. If a setting improves the counter but worsens visibility or frametime, it is not an improvement for that player. Keep a short record of the baseline, one changed setting and the result so the next adjustment has evidence behind it.
